I'm sorry about your sister, I have a brother that is similar to what you've described, and it's awful. Well done on not giving up on your book x

Congrats on doing that huge work! I've authored scientific papers that required editing, which is not the same at all, but I nevertheless recognize the sheer terror in having to edit everything and do major structural switcharoos. I hope you do send your sister the published book. You never know what a gesture stirs in a person, even if they never end up expressing it to you.

Well done Rosy ! Wonderful that you found a way to edit that suited you (sounds a brilliant idea, actually). Subsequent books will be so much easier, now you have a system.

Sorry to hear about your sister’s problems and the impact on family relationships. It’s wonderful that your husband is so supportive of your writing career. We’re all wishing you the very best ! xx

Thanks, Orla. Yes, we have tried AA so many times. I have been as a relative and she has been as the person afflicted. Alcoholism is an illness and I am fortunate that I don't have an addictive personality. Perhaps that's why I find it so difficult to understand what she is doing to herself. As you say, I have to stay focused on my dream and my writing. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you are well.

Thanks, Jane, for your kind words. Yes, editing is tough, but such a worthwhile thing to do and I am so lucky to have an amazing editor to work with which makes all the difference. I will send a copy of my novel to my sister, but unless she has sobered up, she probably won't even notice. I will keep my fingers crossed that she will want to read it and, more importantly, hope she stays sober.

Good to meet you.

Hi Rosy, that looked like a nice winter break in the sun. :) It takes time to really let go of our dream of having loving supportive family members. I had to grieve the loss of some relationships too. It is a process. Your sister is not well.. and they say alcoholism is a family disease as it affects the whole family. Have you ever tried Al Anon? Congratulations on getting your book in. Stay focused on your own dreams. I also have to remind myself of this. :)
