Kate was thrilled with the surprise she had arranged for Zelda’s birthday and the weather was set to continue to be warm for the entire weekend. The boys had their inflatable water slide set up in the garden, which she had splurged on because she felt they deserved a treat after all that had happened and, as luck would have it, a hot spell leading up to the long, summer school holidays had meant that she had got her timing just right. She and the boys were waiting for Zelda to arrive home from work and couldn’t wait to see her face when she saw her surprise.
“What’s all this? A welcoming committee – what are you two up to?” she asked, chasing Robbie and his younger brother, Chase, as soon as she got out of her car. Dumping her bag and some shopping on the kitchen worktop, she was delighted to be passed a flute of champagne that Kate handed her.
“Happy birthday, darling,” she said, chinking her glass.
“My birthday’s not until tomorrow,” she said, sipping the chilled Moёt & Chandon, savouring the cool bubbles as they slid easily down her throat.
“I know, but I thought we would make a weekend of it.” With that, the two boys came scampering back into the kitchen and Robbie took Zelda’s free hand while Chase led the way.
“Come on, Auntie Zelda”, he chirped, his blue eyes sparkling mischievously. “We’ve got a surprise for you!”
“Ooh, I love surprises,” and she winked at Kate as she allowed herself to be led out into the garden.
“Close your eyes” the boys shouted at the top of their voices.
“But I won’t be able to see where I’m going?”
Kate took Zelda’s champagne flute and she obediently closed her eyes while she made her way gingerly across the lawn, having kicked off her shoes on the terrace beforehand, as instructed by Chase. She had never seen or heard the boys so animated and she thought how sweet it was that they cared so much about showing her the surprise.
“OK. Open your eyes now!” the boys shouted in unison.
In front of her was an inflatable hot tub, bubbling away invitingly.
“Oh, my God! I love it!”
Kate appeared by her side and handed back her champagne flute and whispered in her ear, ”How about we get in naked later?” And then she kissed her, in front of Robbie and Chase, a long, lingering, passionate kiss.
The boys made disparaging sounds like “Eeeew” and “Yuk!” and were not in the least bit bothered other than the showing of affection in public was, to their young minds, definitely a big no-no.
“OK guys. Why don’t you go and get your swimmers on and Mummy and Zelda will get our cossies on and we can all cool off out here together and then later, we’ll have a barbecue. How does that sound?”
“Yeah! Burgers and sausages. Yipee!” The boys shot off indoors leaving the two women alone for a few more minutes before returning wearing brightly coloured three-quarter length swimming shorts and were all keyed up and raring to go. Kate made a mental note to calm them down before trying to put them to bed.
As Kate and Zelda sat submerged in the tub, which Kate had filled with tepid water, they revelled in the cool water massaging their bodies and found it very erotic, or perhaps it was the promise of things to come later that made them feel so horny.
