Standing Up for King and Country
As Britain prepares for the Coronation, the country is divided as to whether we should even have a royal family

Preparations for the Coronation of King Charles III are well underway and a sense of patriotism prevails, although I understand that not everybody is a royalist and, indeed, some people actively oppose the very existence of the royal family and all that they stand for.
I get that. The vast amounts of money that each family is allocated along with houses and ‘cottages’ that most of us only ever dream of owning, let alone have gifted to us, seems ludicrously extravagant.
However, I grew up with Queen Elizabeth II at the helm of our country and I had such admiration for her strength of character, work ethic and stoicism that she so eloquently portrayed every day of her working life, which lasted well into her 90’s. She was a shining example of how we should treat our fellow countrymen, with honesty, integrity and heartfelt kindness. I am wholeheartedly in favour of the royal family because they do so much good for the country and I cannot imagine them not being there.
Now her son, Charles, will become King Charles III and having lived with the phrase, ‘God save the Queen’ for over six decades, still find it strange to hear and say, ‘God save the King.’
Times move on and who knows how much longer the royal family will survive before being ousted in favour of an elected head of state as many people would like to see. However, the crowning of King Charles is not all about the Coronation, it’s about bringing communities together and, as well as the procession and service at Westminster Abbey, a Coronation concert at Windsor Castle, and ‘the Coronation Big Lunch’ across the country, there is ‘The Big Help Out’ community activity on the Bank Holiday Monday, 8th May.
The Big Help Out will be held on Monday, 8th May 2023 and is being organised by The Together Coalition and a wide range of partners such as The Scouts, the Royal Voluntary Service and faith groups from across the United Kingdom. The Big Help Out will highlight the positive impact volunteering has on communities across the nation.
There are a lot of positive and community-based activities planned across the country to help foster a sense of ‘togetherness’ and to help bring communities closer.
I will enjoy watching all the pomp and ceremony of the parade, the concert and the crowning of our King and feel proud, to my very core, to be British.
I hope you enjoy the celebrations wherever you are and if you are not in the UK, I hope you enjoy watching them on TV. If you are not going to join in with the celebrations, I wish you a happy Bank Holiday weekend.
I am going to a garden party to celebrate the Coronation and am looking forward to relaxing with friends, watching the spectacle on television and immersing myself in the atmosphere accompanied, of course, by a lovely cup of tea.

Well, you are British, so it is important to you. Charles waited all his life for this day, so I suppose it had to go ahead. There is a way to end an era graciously. Personally, I felt it should have ended with Queen Elizabeth II, but this is how it is to be & as it is a Christian service, at least he is being blessed by Jesus Our Lord and Saviour. I pray he rules with dignity and grace moving Britain into a more modern era to come.
i share your sentiments regarding our Royals, i think it’s a generation thing. enjoy your garden party
long may he reign, Camilla as Queen not so sure!
